Domain Survey Observations, July 1995
- There is definitely a lot more bogus data showing up
in domains. Especially bad are some sites making up a
name for all 65K addresses in their class B network,
even though they are not assigned to actual machines.
- The number of "virtual hosts" (single machines acting
as multiple systems) is rising, but the percentage of them
is still too low to make much difference in the counts.
- www is now by far the most popular host name.
- The percent of domains not surveyed due to servers
refusing answers or connection problems is staying around 20%.
- There was a large increase in class C addresses being used
as compared with the previous year.
- Still...No one has any clue how many users there are.
