Domain Survey Observations, July 1995

• There is definitely a lot more bogus data showing up in domains. Especially bad are some sites making up a name for all 65K addresses in their class B network, even though they are not assigned to actual machines.
• The number of "virtual hosts" (single machines acting as multiple systems) is rising, but the percentage of them is still too low to make much difference in the counts.
• www is now by far the most popular host name.
• The percent of domains not surveyed due to servers refusing answers or connection problems is staying around 20%.
• There was a large increase in class C addresses being used as compared with the previous year.
• Still...No one has any clue how many users there are.
